The Washington Nationals signed former All-Star pitcher Michael Soroka (27) to a one-year deal on Thursday worth $9 million, according to reports.

Soroka threw a 4.74 ERA in 27 appearances last season with the White Sox going a whopping 0-10. He gave up 66 hits and 44 walks in 79.2 innings and struck out 84 batters.

The Calgary native has had a rough go at it since missing most of the 2020 season and all of the 2021 and 2022 seasons with an Achilles injury. In his return during the 2023 season, he threw a career-high 6.40 ERA in 32.1 innings with the Atlanta Braves

Before his injury, Soroka was rather dominant, throwing a 3.51 ERA in five starts during his first year followed by a 2019 All-Star campaign when he threw a 2.68 ERA in 174.2 innings as a starter for Atlanta.

His home runs per nine innings of 0.7 in 2020 was the lowest among all qualified starters that year and even ended up second in the Rookie of the Year voting behind former New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso.

Soroka will look to hopefully revive his career with a hungry, young Nationals team that could surprise everyone next year as they look towards possible playoff contention.
