Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza won the Heisman Trophy (college MVP) under Whitmore's coaching this past season.
The 34-year-old coach had prior experience in the NFL, working as an offensive quality control coach for the Los Angeles Chargers (2021-2023) and a pass game specialist for the Atlanta Falcons (2024) before taking the QB coach job at Indiana this past season.
Indiana went on to have a perfect 16-0 season this year, ultimately winning the National Championship 27-21 over the Miami Hurricanes.
Mendoza, who finished the season with 3,811 total yards, 48 total touchdowns, and seven interceptions, is projected to go to the Las Vegas Raiders with the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
