BYU football head coach Kalani Sitake is becoming the favourite to land the vacant Penn State job previously held by now Virginia Tech coach James Franklin, according to reports from On3.

Sitake is coming off back-to-back 11-win seasons as BYU's head coach as they finished the regular season ranked 11th in the nation.

The 50-year-old Sitake has been coaching the Cougars since being hired in 2016. Since then, he became third on the program's all-time wins list with an 83-44 record.

In his 10 years, BYU has only finished with two losing seasons, winning at least 10 games in four of the last six seasons. Should he take the Penn State job, he will leave BYU also with a 5-2 record in Bowl Games, winning last year's Alamo Bowl over Deion Sanders' Colorado Buffaloes 36-14.

Should they beat No. 5-ranked Texas Tech in the Big 12 Championship on Saturday, December 6th, they'll earn a spot in the 2025 College Football Playoffs.

As for Penn State, they're still on the search for their first new head coach since the program hired James Franklin in 2014. They finished the season 6-6 (3-6 conference), finishing unranked after being placed No. 2 in the nation before the start of the season.

It was their worst record in program history since their 4-7 season in 2004.
