U.D. Almería made it a hat-trick of consecutive home LaLiga victories after coming from behind to defeat RC Celta de Vigo 3-1 at the Power Horse Stadium.

After scoring three first-half goals across their last two home matches, the hosts again began assertively, forcing visiting goalkeeper Agustín Marchesín to remain on his toes in anticipation of potential danger. However, it was Celta Vigo who found themselves ahead in the 25th minute when Gabri Veiga’s fearsome strike flew past the recalled Fernando Martínez via the underside of the crossbar. Only seven minutes after spectacularly handing his side the advantage, though, a furious Veiga was given his marching orders by referee Carlos del Cerro Grande, following a VAR intervention, after it appeared that the midfielder had stamped on Lucas Robertone.

With Vigo on course to move within four points of the European qualification positions, manager Eduardo Coudet made a double alteration at the start of the second half, as Franco Cervi and Renato Tapia were introduced into the fray. However, shortly after the interval, Almería were back on level terms, as another HT substitution, Lázaro, directed Léo Baptistão’s cross past the desperate outstretched dive of Martínez. The footballing gods appeared to be shining down on Almería as, eight minutes later, the hosts made their numerical advantage count when César de la Hoz’s deflected strike found a way past Marchesín.

Familiarising himself with the pitchside monitor for the second time in the game, Del Cerro Grande overturned his initial decision to award Almería a penalty after the Spanish official initially penalised Cervi for a foul on Sergio Akieme. Despite being denied the opportunity to make the match’s climax a lot easier, Almería did indeed find the back of the net for a third time when Íñigo Eguaras converted from close range in injury time.

Victory catapults Almería above Celta Vigo in the LaLiga standings, as Rubi’s side registered their third victory in the last five league matches. In contrast, Los Celestes have now managed only one league win on the road this campaign.
