David left the field during the Perth Scorchers' batting innings on Boxing Day with scans revealing a grade two hamstring injury that will require him to miss the rest of the ongoing Big Bash League season.
Cricket Australia (CA) remains confident that David, who had accumulated 98 runs at an average of 49 and strike rate of 134 this BBL season, will be completely rehabilitated in time for Australia's opening 2026 T20 World Cup game against Ireland in Colombo on February 11.
In an all-encompassing injury update on Monday afternoon, CA also revealed that star spinner Nathan Lyon had undergone successful surgery on December 23 for a high-grade injury to his right hamstring sustained during the final day of the third Ashes Test in Adelaide.
The 38-year-old Lyon will miss the remainder of the 2025/26 domestic season, delaying his return to the BBL in a Melbourne Renegades kit.
Lyon's rehabilitation timeline has not yet been established, but with Australia not due to play Test cricket until a tour of South Africa in September-October, there'll certainly be no haste in his recovery.
CA also stated that Josh Hazlewood has recently resumed running and is on track to be fit for the upcoming T20 World Cup, whilst Test captain Pat Cummins will get fresh imaging on his back to determine his fitness for that tournament.
