Aussie all-rounder Cameron Green has been purchased by the Kolkata Knight Riders at the 2025 IPL mini-auction in Abu Dhabi for a record-breaking price of 25.2cr INR, equivalent to US$2.77m (AU$4.17m).

Bidding began with the cash-strapped Mumbai Indians at 2 crore before a bidding war erupted between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, the two franchises with by far the most salary cap space to spend at the mini-auction.

Recent changes to IPL auction regulations in order to prevent overseas players from skipping mega auctions in a bid to inflate their going price in alternate years means that Green's salary will be capped at 18 crore (US$1.98m / AU$2.98m), with the remainder of the purchase price going to BCCI player welfare programs.

The Australian has become the third-most expensive purchase in IPL history, narrowly behind star Indians Rishabh Pant (27 crore) and Shreyas Iyer (26.75 crore) at the 2025 mega auction.

Green missed the 2025 IPL season due to a lengthy back injury and had last played in the tournament for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2024, scoring 255 tournament runs at a rate of 8.59rpo and taking ten wickets at an economy rate of 8.61rpo.

He was sold at the 2023 auction for two-thirds of his 2025 price, with RCB paying 17.5 crore.

It was a series of three half-centuries in a July 2025 T20I tour of the Caribbean, during which he accumulated 205 runs at a scoring rate of 9.84rpo, that brought him to the fore as one of the most highly sought after commodities of Tuesday's auction, during which teammate Jake Fraser-McGurk went unsold at first time of asking.
