It's been another busy weekend of overseas action for our Aussie athletes, so here's what you may have missed and what you need to keep an eye on for the week ahead!

Grace Kim wins tense playoff in France

The 24-year-old lifted her second LPGA Tour trophy and her first since April 2023 when defeating Thailand's Jeeno Thitikul in a play-off during the final round of the Amundi Evian Championship in Évian-les-Bains.

But it was the manner of the victory that was nothing short of miraculous.

Kim headed towards the 18th hole tee in third place, two shots behind Thitikul anbehind Brit Lottie Woad

She would not only eagle the par-four 18th by dropping a stunning 190-yard drive next to the hole, forcing a tiebreaker after Thitikul was unable to birdie to hold her lead, but her chances of glory looked well and truly shot when her following drive on the 18th, this time during the play-off hole, would be skewed so far right the ball took a drink.

Obviously I was pretty bummed to find out that my ball was in the middle of the water. But, again, it’s not quite finished until the very end,” Kim said after making this incredible chip shot from the subsequent drop ball:

The third time was a charm for the Sydneysider when she made the green in two strokes on the second play-off hole, snatching the title from Thitikul in a thrilling finish.

"That will be staying in the bag," Kim said of the four-hybrid club that she used all three times driving on the 18th.

A season-best finish for a MotoGP hopeful

30-year-old Jack Miller was amongst the points for a seventh weekend this MotoGP season, including a fifth-placed finish in the sprint race in Spain to cap off an excellent weekend for Yamaha. The 13 points he earned across both races was his biggest collect of the year.

Miller is currently riding in his second stint at Prima Pramac - the fourth manufacturer of this career - but this time is on a one-year contract and is fighting for both his immediate and his long-term future.

He was one of just ten finishers in a wet and jeopardous Spanish GP, outshining teammate Miguel Oliveira who was out on lap four.

Here's hoping that result - and his next during the Czech Republic in Brno this weekend before the season takes a few weeks off - goes a long way towards earning him a spot in the 2026 World Championship.

Heartbreak for Hijikata at Wimbledon

Whilst the spotlight was on Jannik Sinner's Grand Slam triumph and the continuing fallout from his recent doping ban, 24-year-old Rinky Hijikata fell at the final hurdle of his pursuit of a second Grand Slam men's doubles title.

In tandem with the Netherlands' double specialist David Pel, who was in his first ATP final since winning the 2021 Swedish Open doubles with compatriot Sander Arends, Hijikata lost in straight sets to British pair Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool (2-6, 6-7 (3-7)).

The 2023 Australian Open winner, who described playing on Wimbledon's roofed centre court as a "dream come true", had not even met his makeshift partner Pel prior to the tournament let alone training with him.

"It was our first time speaking on the day the tournament started," Hijikata said of Pel.

"He's brought such a great energy on the court. He's made it very easy for me out there."

It will be quite some time before we forget the incredible comeback that both Hijikata and Pel produced to get to the final:

Mixed results for our cricketers across the Americas

Cameron Green's 42no in the second innings of the third Test against the West Indies in Jamaica has been as good as a century considering the circumstances of the pink ball Test at Sabina Park, which has outdone almost every other batter from both sides across the weekend.

The Aussies went to bed after day 2 with their second innings score teetering at 99/6. Green and Cummins will return at 4:30am AEST looking to push the lead deep into the 200s, which will be difficult to chase against five quality Australian fast bowlers.

19-year-old Sam Konstas is in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons after producing the worst series numbers by an Aussie opener in the Caribbean for more than four decades, accumulating just 50 runs from his six starts albeit in mostly trying conditions for batting.

He'll have up to four Sheffield Shield rounds before the Perth Test against England to prove he deserves incumbency for the Ashes.

Glenn Maxwell had a night to forget as his Washington Freedom lost the final of USA's Major League Cricket to Mumbai Indians New York, who scraped through to the finals with a 3-7 record only to win all three of their knockout games.

Maxwell went for 46 runs with the ball and contributed just 15 in reply at number six as his team fell six runs short of their target of 181.

What to watch out for this week:

Tennis: Aleksandar Vukic, James McCabe, Tristan Schoolkate, Adam Walton and James Duckworth are all in the ATP Los Cabos event in Mexico, whilst veteran pair Matthew Ebden and John Peers will be amongst the favourties to win the men's doubles. Bernard Tomic failed to qualify for the tournament after retiring hurt.

Basketball: Our Opals are out to win the Women's Asia Cup for the first time (after three consecutive third-place finishes) and have cruised through their first two group stage matches with 115-39 and 113-34 victories over Philippines and Lebanon respectively.

Road cycling: 29-year-old Ben O'Connor was 25th in the overall classification of the 2025 Tour de France after nine stages.

DartsLook out for Aussie world number ten Damon Heta as he makes his fifth World Matchplay appearance with an aim of bettering his run to the quarter-finals in 2023. Should he make it to the quarters again this time, he'll likely have a meeting with reigning world champion Luke Littler

BoxingThe great Tim Tszyu has himself a title fight next Sunday morning AEST to get ready for during the week against 27-year-old American Sebastian Fundora, who is defending his WBC title. Fundora took the title off Tszyu by a split decision victory in March 2024 before the rematch was confirmed in late April 2025. It has been touted by Fundora's promoter Sampson Lewkowicz as "the fight that everyone wants to see".
