Maja Dahlqvist has won the women's sprint title at the 2025-26 FIS Cross-country World Cup after a third-place finish in the final sprint event of the season, the freestyle in Lake Placid, USA, coming home behind compatriots Linn Svahn and Jonna Sundling.

It's a second victory in as many days in New York state for Svahn, who added the sprint success to the 10km classic.

She went head-to-head with Sundling in the final stretch and pipped her fellow Swede on the line to win in a time of 2:52.28, 0.46 seconds ahead of Sundling. Dahlqvist completed the podium sweep just a second later.

By finishing ahead of another Swede, Johanna Hagstrom, and Nadine Fahndrich of Switzerland, Dahlqvist had certainly done enough to win the sprint title for the third time in her career. She finishes on 814 points, 16 clear of Hagstrom with the Swiss another five further back.

Sundling and Svahn finish fourth and fifth in the overall sprint standings, respectively, ahead of Germany's Coletta Rydzek, who was the sixth and final finalist in the Lake Placid event this time.

Dahlqvist has also finished third in the overall World Cup standings, behind Sweden's Moa Ilar in second, while Jessie Diggins of the United States secured the title earlier this week. The final event at Lake Placid and the entire World Cup season is the 20km mass start on Sunday 22nd March.

There was also success for Sweden on the men's side, as Anton Grahn finished third in the sprint final, behind Italian winner Federico Pellegrino and Lars Heggen of Norway.

That was enough for Grahn to crack the top 10 in the final sprint standings in the men's competition.
