The surgery will remove "loose bodies from his elbow." A three-month timetable would see Diaz returning in late July or early-mid August.

Diaz, 32, has given up seven runs on nine hits through six innings, posting a brutal 10.50 ERA with 10 strikeouts and five walks, recording four saves in seven games. The vet has been established as one of the best closers in baseball through his 10-year career, posting at least 25 saves in six of those seasons and an ERA below 2.00 in four.
He made his third All-Star appearance last season and finished with a 1.63 ERA and 28 saves through 62 games, finishing 48 of them. This is Diaz's second big injury since entering the league.
In 2023, he missed the entire season after tearing a patellar tendon in his right knee while celebrating Puerto Rico's post-game celebration after beating the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic.
