Another weekend is here, and while the football season motors on, there is a fierce cricket rivalry, a heavyweight tennis final, and more Winter Olympics action to look forward to.

Here is what our editors will be watching this weekend:

Saturday, February 14th

Alpine skiing: Men's giant slalom at the Winter Olympics - 11:00 CET

Switzerland's Marco Odermatt has claimed four successive World Cups in this event, but he will head into the competition on the back of a Winter Olympics campaign that so far has been quite disappointing for a man of his ability.

Follow the Winter Olympics with Flashscore.

Odermatt finished fourth in the downhill and took the bronze in the super-G, but this won't be enough to satisfy the Swiss skiing ace, who in Milan will attempt to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals in giant slalom, a feat that only the Italian Alberto Tomba has achieved before (in Calgary 1988 and Albertville 1992)

Currently ranked second in the World Cup giant slalom standings, Lucas Pinheiro Braathen is posing a significant challenge to Odermatt. Representing Brazil, he is aiming for a historic first-ever Winter Olympic medal for South America, showing incredible speed in the technical events.

The Austrian duo of Stefan Brennsteiner & Marco Schwarz will aim to disrupt the Swiss/Brazilian dominance through their vast experience and technical skills on the slope.

Victoria Mboko vs Karolina Muchova, Doha final - 16:00 CET

The first WTA 1000 event of the tennis season comes to a close this weekend, as 19-year-old sensation Victoria Mboko takes on Karolina Muchova in the Doha final.

It has been a remarkable few months for Mboko, with her bursting onto the scene on home turf in Canada last August, picking up her maiden 1000 title in Montreal after downing four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka.

Ranked 333rd in the world at the start of 2025, she is now set to rise into the top 10 after beating Mirra Andreeva, Elena Rybakina and Jelena Ostapenko this week, regardless of whether she wins a second WTA 1000 event.

The big-hitting Canadian will have to deal with the silky skills and all-round package of Muchova, however, who will be desperate to win her first 1000 crown - and her first at any level since 2019.

A tremendous talent, injuries have prevented her from adding more trophies to her cabinet, and after reaching two 1000 finals before, she has another chance to get her hands on this prestigious trophy.

The Czech has seen off the likes of Anna Kalinskaya and Maria Sakkari to reach this stage, but she is unquestionably in for her biggest test.

A clash of styles but two players in supreme form, this should be a high-quality final.

Inter Milan vs Juventus - 20:45 CET

The Serie A has two huge clashes this weekend, with Napoli and Roma squaring off in a key battle for the top four. However, all eyes will be on the San Siro on Saturday night as Inter Milan and Juventus do battle in the latest instalment of the Derby d’Italia.

Inter lead the league and have looked a step above the rest in doing so. I Nerazzurri are 12 matches without defeat (12-1-0), including victories in their last five. Their 57 goals scored are by far the most in the league, 16 more than the next best side.

Seeing they are still in contention for a second-ever domestic treble, they will want to continue their good form ahead of their Champions League knockout round playoffs tie.

Juve, on the other hand, are embroiled in a fascinating battle for the Champions League places, currently holding fourth place on goal difference. The record Scudetto winners head into this contest 12 points back of their rivals, having scored a stoppage-time equaliser versus Lazio last weekend.

While La Vecchia Signora are typically known for their defensive prowess, it has been their attack that has done well in the league this term. Their 41 goals are second to their Saturday opponents.

The reverse fixture proved to be one of the best games in the Serie A this season, as Juve won a back-and-forth game 4-3 at home. It is easily one of their best wins of the campaign. In fact, this matchup has not been good to Inter in recent times, as they have won just once in the last five (1-2-2). That came in February of 2024, where Federico Gatti's own goal decided the match.

Do not be surprised if we have another game between the Derby d’Italia rivals where goals fly in for fun. Given the quality of both sides’ attacks, this could be one of the best matches of the calendar year in the league. Make sure your Saturday night is free, because this is one you will not want to miss.

India vs Pakistan, T20 World Cup - 14:30 CET

It’s hard to underestimate just how big India vs Pakistan is. Without fully unravelling the cricketing rivalry, here’s one stat to sum it up… Around 125 million people tuned in for the just-gone Super Bowl across America; when India and Pakistan met in an ODI this time last year (in the Champions Trophy), 205 million TV viewers were recorded, and a staggering 600 million on digital platforms.

Ok, that’s truly incredible. But certain things about this fixture also make it extremely complicated. For security reasons, these teams do not tour each other anymore - the last time they met in any bilateral series was way back in 2013. What that means is that they now only meet at World Cups or at the Asia Cup, and always at neutral venues, hence why this match will be staged in Colombo and not hosted by (tournament co-hosts) India.

In fact, they have been purposely pooled together at the ongoing T20 World Cup (as they were at the last one), in order to cash in on the staggering broadcast potential of this match. As curious as it may sound, they both refuse to play each other and yet have to. Or to put that another way, the ICC simply cannot afford for them not to meet at tournaments. All that context goes some way to explaining why, when Pakistan’s government decided to boycott this weekend’s clash on February 1st, plenty of people started to panic.

But what caused the boycott? Well, in short, relations between the sides (and importantly, the nations) seriously soured on and off the pitch in 2025, but Bangladesh’s recent omission from the World Cup after refusing to play in India (for their own reasons) was the key catalyst. However, Pakistan’s government have since withdrawn the boycott after successful negotiations involving the ICC and both the Pakistani and Bangladeshi boards. A few promises have been made, so one of sport’s great matchups is back on!

That’s the background, here’s the tournament context: Both sides badly wobbled in their openers but eventually got over the line with Pakistan then beating the USA and India going 2-0 against Namibia. Considering those results, it’s now very hard to see either side not progressing from the pool to the Super 8 stage.

What’s more, even losing this match won’t affect much because the next phase of the tournament is pre-seeded, meaning both sides are already assigned to opposite groups, regardless of what order they finish the pool stage in - a major issue of the tournament format. But forget that glaring flaw for a second because this is more about bragging rights. Seriously spicy bragging rights, with layers of complexity.

As for form, India are the red-hot favourites to win this match and the whole tournament. However, Pakistan have finally struck upon a successful formula, having won five on the bounce (as India have too). The fact that the match is in Colombo is also a leveller, so don’t rule out an upset!

If you’re going to watch one group-stage match at the T20 World Cup, make it this one, and then hope they meet again in the semis or final for peak drama.

Macclesfield vs Brentford - 20:30 CET

With all the debate that has raged in the past decade around the 'magic of the FA Cup', non-league Macclesfield supplied a bucketload in the third round earlier this year, delivering one of the biggest shocks in the storied history of the competition by knocking out the holders Crystal Palace.

Their reward for knocking out a Premier League side? Another one.

The semi-pro side face Brentford on Monday night, knowing that if they can pull off another 'miracle', it will top their feat in January.

That's because the Bees are one of the form teams across England. Their haul of 21 points in their last 10 games is only eclipsed by league leaders Arsenal in the Premier League, and they showed their pedigree on Thursday night, earning a 1-1 draw against the aforementioned Gunners.

Macclesfield haven't let their cup exploits go to their heads, however, something we do see from a giant-killer. In their last five National League North matches, they have won four and lost just one as they chase a play-off berth.

Betting companies are giving them a 10% chance of winning, which feels generous given there are more than 100 places between the sides. But this is the FA Cup, and anything can happen - Macclesfield have already proved that. Can they do it again?
