The NHL will play four regular-season matches in Germany, two in Munich and two in Cologne, in the 2027/28 campaign, the governing body announced on Thursday.

At an event hosted by Bundesliga club Bayern Munich on Thursday, the NHL announced the Boston Bruins are set to play two matches in the Bavarian capital at SAP Garden, while the Edmonton Oilers will play two games at Cologne's Lanxess Arena.

The NHL first came to then West Germany on a European promotional tour in 1959, playing matches in Berlin, Dortmund, Essen and Krefeld.

The first regular-season NHL match was held in Berlin in 2011, with two more taking place later in 2026 between the Ottawa Senators and the Chicago Blackhawks in Dusseldorf.

American sports leagues have sought to expand their footprint into Germany as part of parallel global and European expansion plans.

Germany has already hosted several regular-season NFL games since the first match in Munich in 2022, while the first regular-season NBA fixture was held in Berlin in January 2026.
