What a weekend of action it promises to be, as the Masters - one of the most thrilling events in sports - comes to a close. Meanwhile, a champion will be crowned in Monte Carlo, the NBA regular season reaches its conclusion, and fierce rivals face off in the footballing world.

Here is what our editors will be watching this weekend:

Saturday, April 12th

Bayern Munich vs Borussia Dortmund - 18:30 CET

It looked like Bayern Munich had all but wrapped up the Bundesliga a few weeks ago, but a reinvigorated Bayer Leverkusen are keeping them in check, six points behind the league leaders with six games to play.

The Bavarians now host Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening in Der Klassiker in what will be a stern test of their title credentials.

Dortmund, who lost 4-0 to Barcelona in midweek, find themselves eighth in the standings, but they are getting some confidence back with back-to-back league wins heading to the Allianz Arena.

They also have some recent good memories against their bitter rivals, having won the derby away from home 2-0 last season and a battling point earlier this season.

There's a huge amount of stake this weekend between the two sides, and a win for Dortmund could put some jeopardy into the title race and keep Bayern sweating for longer.

It will be a pumping atmosphere in Munich and a game not to miss.

Monte Carlo Masters final

The first clay-court Masters event of the season in Monte Carlo reaches its climax this weekend, and there are just so many intriguing storylines to keep an eye on.

Ahead of the showpiece on Sunday, the finalists are still yet be confirmed. In the semi-final line-ups, Alex De Minaur takes on Lorenzo Musetti, and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina faces Carlos Alcaraz.

De Minaur became the first Aussie since 1979 to reach the Monte Carlo semi-finals, and has shown so much improvement on the clay courts. However, Musetti defeated the three-time winner and defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas in the last round to book a spot in his very first Masters 1000 semi-final. The Italian certainly loves this surface, so it is sure to be a tight affair

Meanwhile, world number three and four-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz, who had never won a match here before this tournament, will be the overwhelming favourite to defeat fellow Spaniard Davidovich Fokina. The latter has actually reached the final back here in 2023 and is very comfortable on the clay courts though.

Alcaraz will be fancied to go on a lift the trophy on Sunday, but as we have seen in recent months, he is certainly vulnerable, which is what makes the final two days such an interesting prospect.

The Masters final round

Masters week is one of the great weeks of the sporting calendar. Sunday at Augusta is special, and for good reason. When the leading group tees off on Augusta Sunday, there is a stillness which is quickly followed by an eruption of noise after each player hits their tee shot. There is nothing like it.

At the 2025 Masters, anything could happen after a first day that saw Justin Rose shoot a stunning 65 to take an early three-shot lead. In the chasing pack is world number one Scottie Scheffler, who made an impressive start to his title defence.

Despite Rose leading the pack in the clubhouse, Scheffler remains the man to beat, and a certain world number two Rory Mcllory was on course for matching him until a disastrous double bogey on hole 15 changed his fortunes.

McIlory was looking strong for a -4 round with potential for -5 before it all fell apart, leaving him even par and with yet another mountain to climb at a course that, at this point, feels cursed for the Northern Irishman.

Luckily for Mcllory and the other contenders who are off the pace so far, three more rounds remain, and it is anyone’s guess who will be wearing the famous Green Jacket on Sunday night.

So far, though, it is hard to look past Scheffler who very much remains the man to beat.

End of NBA regular season - 19:00 CET

After months of toil, the NBA regular season comes to an end on Sunday, and there is just so much to play for in the Western Conference.

Of course, teams are still jostling for position all over the league, but in the wild, wild West, it is still not clear which teams will secure a spot straight in the playoffs, or will need to go through the play-in tournament.

The Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers have all confirmed their spots in the playoffs, but the battle for the other three spots will go down to Sunday.

Five teams - The Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves and Memphis Grizzlies - are looking to squeeze into those spaces, and all have a realistic chance of doing that.

On Sunday, the Nuggets face the Rockets, the Timberwolves take on the Jazz while the Grizzlies meet the Dallas Mavericks. And in potentially a make-or-break clash, the Los Angeles Clippers take on the Golden State Warriors.

Should the Clippers lose and the Warriors win their penultimate games on Friday night, this game would hold incredible significance, as it could go as far as deciding which teams will secure a playoff spot. It is a tantalising prospect as we enter crunch time in the NBA season.

Lazio vs Roma - 20:45 CET

The standout game in Serie A this weekend is the Derby della Capitale on Sunday evening between Lazio and Roma, co-inhabiters of the Stadio Olimpico and two teams gunning for European football next season.

Marco Baroni’s side lead Claudio Ranieri’s men by just two points and one place in the standings - they are in sixth and seventh, respectively. What’s more, they are both well in the hunt for Champions League football with third-place Atalanta now only one win ahead of Lazio.

The Biancocelesti might have the edge on their rivals in the table, but if you look at a form guide, Roma are right up there with the best record in the league over the last 10 and 15 matches. They are on some run and haven’t lost in 15 matches in Serie A. That incredible streak included a 2-0 win over Lazio back in early January.

While Lazio cannot boast the same recent form, they are coming off a crucial win away over Atalanta last weekend. As such, both these sides have their tails up, and this derby could be an absolute cracker to close the weekend out in Italy. There is just so much at stake!
