Despite a late comeback attempt, Croatia ran out of fuel against a relentless German national team, who on Friday night secured their access to the final of the European Championships through a 31-28 win.

Germany are through to their fourth-ever EURO final. even though Croatia fought back with impressive determination to narrow the final margin to only three goals.

Andreas Wolff was again voted as the Player of the Match and was again important for the German side, today making 13 saves (32 per cent), to give Germany the edge they needed against the tenacious Croatians.

Lukas Zerbe scored six goals for Germany, including two penalties; Tin Lučin managed six (from 13 shots) for Croatia, also including two penalties.

Initially, it was Croatia who kept edging ahead with their seven-on-six attacking strategy. But the German side always responded immediately. After a spectacular play finished by Renars Uscins from a Lukas Mertens pass to make it 4-4, even the Croatian fans applauded. Shortly after, Julian Köster gave Germany their first lead (7-6) on a fast break, and goalkeeper Andreas Wolff saved a penalty.

With Hollywood actor Mads Mikkelsen watching in the stands, the match remained close, with both teams enjoying their share of momentum. When Lukas Zerbe made it 15-13, Germany led by two for the first time (26th minute).

The situation improved even further for the Germans after the break. Wolff, protected by a solid defense, was immediately back in action, and in attack, the German team continued to take their chances clinically. Johannes Golla quickly extended the lead to six goals at 22-16 (37th minute), providing a comfortable cushion.

With a medal already in sight, Germany, playing their eighth match in 16 days, fought passionately even though Croatia closed the gap to 28-30. But for Dagur Sigurdsson's team, it was too little too late.
