Goalkeeper Anna Kristensen stole all the headlines when she with no less than 26 saves helped Denmark defeat Hungary on Thursday evening 21-19 in the EHF Euro Cup in the first national team match since the World Championships in December last year.

Denmark struggled to get their attacking game going, but in the end managed to find the solutions when Hungary were defeated 21-19 on Thursday evening in the EHF Euro Cup.

The Danes pulled away in the end despite several two-minute suspensions, which Hungary did not take advantage of.

Denmark and Hungary also met in the World Championships in December when the Danes won by a single goal.

Both teams had major problems in a scrappy opening phase with very few goals for either side.

Midway through the first half, Hungary found their rhythm, but thanks to a solid Danish defense, Helle Thomsen's side still managed to pull even at the break.

Hungary subsequently had the best start to the second half and created a small gap. But the Danish defense was simply too strong. Anna Kristensen in goal contributed with 26 saves, while the defensive unit was very well organized throughout the match.

And when the attacking game slowly began to improve, the Danes took over the game and won by a small margin.

Mie Hojlund, who did not take part in the World Championships in December due to an injury, was the one who finally got the Danish attack going in the second half as the playmaker became the leading goalscorer with six goals.

It was the first time that the Danish women's national handball team were in action since they lost to France in the quarter-finals at the World Championships in December.
