Reigning Olympic champions Denmark on Thursday evening gave evidence that they are slowly getting in gear for the European Championships set to start in a week's time as they cruised to a comfortable win against Norway 34-26.

Denmark recorded a comfortable 34-26 victory over Norway in the team's first of three test matches in the Netherlands ahead of the European Championship final tournament.

However, the Danes needed to adjust Mathias Gidsel's position in attack, after Nicolaj Jacobsen's outfit did not quite reach the expected level in the first half, which ended 13-13.

Although Denmark wasn't at their absolute best, they still managed to fashion a host of chances against their Scandinavian rivals.

The problem was that Norwegian keeper Torbjorn Bergerud was absolutely outstanding.

Both the Danish wings and defenders missed several big chances against Bergerud, who in the first half produced around ten big saves.

Thanks to an increased pace in the Danish attack, Gidsel came more into his game in the second half as the Norwegian defense struggled to contain the threat of the Danish back-line players.

Denmark went from 17-16 to 26-16 thanks to nine successive goals, and Gidsel settled into his stylish stride.

The Danish defense completely dismantled the Norwegian attack, and when the Norwegians burst through on rare occasions, Emil Nielsen often produced fine reflex saves.

With a ten-goal lead, the game was already decided, and Nikolaj Jacobsen could start rotating his players. This gave the Norwegians the opportunity to add to the scoreboard and avoid humiliation.
