Smit fell to the floor shortly after the interval, clutching his knee, and scans have now revealed the worst possible outcome.
"As soon as I hit the floor in that sequence, I knew immediately that something was wrong. Unfortunately, the scan only confirmed what I myself feared, and unfortunately, it is not the first time that I have tried to get a cruciate ligament injury, so I know that there is a lot of work ahead before I can get back on the court", says Smit to Aalborg's website.
Smit's contract expires after this season, so he may – unless the contract is extended – have played his last game for Aalborg. The Danish champions, therefore, only have Kristian Bjornsen on the right wing position for the rest of the season.
