There were just three games in the National Hockey League (NHL) on Sunday, which saw two of the home teams come out on top. Here is what happened in the contests.

Dallas Stars 1-4 Tampa Bay Lightning

The Tampa Bay Lighning started off the day with a 4-1 road victory over the Dallas Stars to go top of a packed Eastern Conference standings.

Despite going behind to a Oscar Back goal four minutes in, the Bolts recovered, equalizing from a Dominic James marker later on in the opening frame.

Brandon Hagel and Jake Guentzel added second period goals to give the guests a 3-1 lead, before Pontus Holmberg rounded out the scoring two minutes before the end with an empty net shot.

It is an immediate return to winning ways for Tampa, who have now come out on top in 12 of their last 13. Dallas, meanwhile, have lost their last three, though they remain second in the West.

Detriot Red Wings 4-3 Ottawa Senators (OT)

There was just one match that had a close scoreline on Sunday, which came in Detroit. The Red Wings held their nerve to grind out a 4-3 overtime success over the visiting Ottawa Senators.

Power plays proved to be pivotal in this one, as both teams scored twice when they had a man advantage. Drake Batherson and Dylan Cozens got goals to put the Sens up by two.

The hosts would not give in though, and ultimately scored three in a row to take the lead. Axel Sandin-Pellikka got them on the board, before Lucas Raymond tied things up. James Van Riemsdyk's power play marker with 3:07 left in regulation put them ahead. But, Shane Pinto restored parity in the last minute to force overtime.

Alex DeBrincat was the hero for Detroit, as he needed just 36 seconds to find a way past James Reimer and give the Red Wings the win. It is six victories in their last seven now as they go level on points with Tampa and the Carolina Hurricanes.

Edmonton Oilers 5-0 St. Louis Blues

Zach Hyman got two goals and an asssit for the Edmonton Oilers in their comfortable 5-0 win against the St. Louis Blues

Having outshot their opponents 48-42, the hosts got markers from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Andrew Mangiapane, and Hyman in the first period.

The Blues had no answer for what the Oilers threw at them. With 16 of their shots coming in the second, the guests did everything they could to get on the board. Still, there was no passing Connor Ingram on the night.

Hyman got his second of the game midway through the second frame, before he set up Vasili Podkolzin moments after the second intermission to cap the scoring in what was an impressive Edmonton win.

The Oilers stay fifth in the West, moving to two points behind the Vegas Golden Knights for fourth spot. As for the Blues, they are five points off the playoff places after their 22nd regulation loss of the season.
