Fans at several of the National Hockey League (NHL) venues on Tuesday got full value for entertainment, as overtime and shootouts were quite the theme across the league.

Perhaps the wildest game of the evening came in Minnesota, where the Wild and Nashville Predators were involved in an incredible encounter. Kiril Kaprizov put the home team in front midway through the first on a power play. It took the Preds five minutes and change after the first intermission to level the game through Matthew Wood

The trick was repeated by the Wild, who retook the lead on another man advantage. Zeev Buium was the one to finish the chance this time.

Once more, the Predators were left chasing the game. They ended up with 52 shots on the night. Their patience paid off, but they left it to the very last second, as Steven Stamkos' shot went over the line just before the horn.

Remarkably enough, Minnesota grabbed the winner in the extra period, with Marcus Johansson scoring the winner. The referee awarded the goal after the Predators goaltender Justus Annunen was adjudged to have deliberately dislodge the net.

Elsewhere, the Carolina Hurricanes scored once in each frame to top the New York Rangers 3-0 on the road. It was also success on their travels for the Utah Mammoth, who edged the Buffalo Sabres 2-1 in overtime. Clayton Keller got the game's winner 44 seconds into the five-minute period to end the match.

The Dallas Stars pulled off a combeack in the third period at home to the Edmonton Oilers. Down 3-1, the Stars rattled back, scoring twice in less than four minutes to tie the game.

A shootout was required, where Dallas held firm to prevail 4-3 (2-1 in the shootout). Wyatt Johnston made the difference with his attempt, converting his to end the contest.

At the Bell Centre, the Montreal Canadiens fell 5-4 in a shootout to the Philadelphia Flyers, as the Boston Bruins also went the distance before topping the New York Islanders 4-3.

The other matches going on tonight are between the Colorado Avalanche and Tampa Bay Lightning, while the Anaheim Ducks host the Florida Panthers. The Vegas Golden Knights take on the Detroit Red Wings, and the Los Angeles Kings face the Winnipeg Jets
