In New York, the Rangers managed to beat rivals Boston Bruins 4-3 in overtime. The hosts went in front twice during the opening frame, first through Will Cuylle and then via J.T. Miller. However, the Bruins twice levelled the score.
Elias Linsdstrom was key for the guests, as he made it 1-1 midway through the first, and then scored a second equalizer 3:18 into the middle frame.
Boston took their first and only lead of the contest nearly nine minutes into the second, as Morgan Geekie made the most of his chance, beating Jonathan Quick.
In what was a nervy third period, the Rangers pressed for their leveller. The Bruins did not make it easy, and had chances to finish off the match. Yet, they failed to do so, and were ultimately punished. Will Borgen got the goal to make it 3-3 with 6:17 left in regulation.
The match needed overtime to decide a winner, which was when Matthew Robinson stepped up for the Rangers, converting Quick's pass to bring the game to an end.
Despite the win, New York still sit bottom of the Eastern Conference, 11 points out from a playoff spot. The Bruins, remain seventh in the conference.
Elsewhere on Monday, the New York Islanders scored in all three periods during a 4-0 defeat of the Phildadelphia Flyers on the road. That saw them jump into the eighth and final postseason berth in the East as a result.
Goals from Darren Raddysh and Anthony Cirelli helped the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 2-0 success against the visiting Utah Mammoth. Although they mustered 44 shots throughout the match, the guests could not find their way past Andrei Vasilevski.
The goals came fast and furious in Winnipeg, where the Edmonton Oilers came away with a 7-4 win at the expense of the Anaheim Ducks.
Mikael Granlund got the first of his three power play goals for the Ducks early on, but Zach Hyman responded before the first intermisison. After Alexander Killorn put the away team back in front, the Oilers went rampant.
Four goals in just under four minutes blew the game open, as Spencer Statsney, Mattias Ekholm with two, and Darnell Nurse scored to put Edmonton up 5-2. Granlund did get one back for the Ducks before the period's conclusion.
The 33-year-old then completed his hat-trick with 6:22, seemingly setting up a grandstand finale. Instead, Connor McDavid added a sixth, before Ekholm got his first career hat-trick to round out the scoring.
The Oilers put some space between themselves and their opponents in the West, as the gap for fourth spot has now gone up to three.
