There were 13 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) on Thursday, which included an 11-goal game in Utah as the Capitals grabbed another victory. Here is a look back on some of the action.

Florida Panthers 2-3 Minnesota Wild

A dramatic game saw the Stanley Cup holders Florida Panthers fall 3-2 to the Minnesota Wild at home thanks to a last-gasp winner from the visiting team.

Marcus Foligno and Ryan Hartman scored in the second for the Wild to give them a 2-0 lead going into the second intermission. Perhaps they should have had more, considering the fact they completely outshot Florida during the first 40 minutes of the contest.

However, the Panthers found themselves level, though it took them a while. Matthew Tkachuk needed just 42 seconds after the restart to get his team on the board. Then, just as it looked like it was not their night, Aaron Ekblad tied things up with less than 75 seconds left in regulation.

Everything seemed to be pointing to the game going into overtime. Unfortunately for the Panthers, their comeback proved to be pointless. With just five seconds left, Joel Ek Eriksson found the back of the net to give Minnesota the win.

The Wild are third in the West now with what was their 26th regulation time win of the year. As for Florida, they remain second from the bottom of the East, losing for the second time in three nights.

Utah Mammoth 4-7 Washington Capitals

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin was the star of the game with his hat-trick helping them get past the Utah Mammoth 7-4.

Despite Ivan Miroshnichenko's opener two minutes in, the Caps found themselves behind by the end of the opening frame. Dylan Guenther scored twice before Logan Cooley added a third to make it 3-1 for the home team.

That was the best it would get though, as Washington then scored the next four goals. Ovechkin scored twice in the second to tie the game.

Then, less than three minutes into the final period, the Caps retook the lead via Anthony Beauvillier. Rasmus Sandin doubled the advantage a few minutes later, putting the Mammoth in a tricky spot.

MacKenzie Weegar gave the fans hope with his marker with 11:54 left, but unfortunately for Utah, they seldom found the net after that. Miroshnichenko got his second a moments later, before Ovechkin completed the scoring with an empty netter to grab his hat-trick.

It is back-to-back defeats for the Mammoth, who sees their gap to ninth place in the West go down to four points. The Caps, meanwhile, are six points behind the New York Islanders for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
