Skelleftea have taken a 3-0 series lead in their Swedish Hockey League semi-final against Lulea following a 3-1 success on the road that puts them one win away from knocking out the reigning champions.

Having been pushed to the limit in the SHL's longest match in the opening game, the number one seeds had a much more comfortable night in game two to ensure they travelled north with a two-game advantage.

That looked to be in danger after just four minutes this evening, as Lulea moved the puck well at the blue line before Jesper Sellgren's shot from distance was deflected in by Isac Hedqvist to put the home side ahead in a match for the first time in the series.

But their lead lasted until the final minute of the first period, when Victor Stjernborg injected some pace into Skelleftea's game before laying the puck off to Lars Bryggman, who had time to pick his spot and fire in the equaliser.

That was the away side's sixth shot on goal in a period when they conceded 11, and if that goal swung the momentum of the match, it took time to materialise.

After Lulea failed to make the most of a powerplay following holding by Jonathan Davidsson, Skelleftea took their chances over the next six minutes, going ahead when Oliver Okuliar and Andreas Johnson combined for Pontus Johansson to give them the lead with less than five minutes to go in the second.

Just over two minutes later it was 3-1, when Bryggman latched onto a loose puck in the attacking zone before setting it back to Emil Djuse, who got his goal-bound shot away before the Lulea defence could close in.

The home side certainly had the chance to set up a grandstand finish in the final seven minutes after Par Lindholm was dismissed for cross-checking, but they failed to find a way through, and a disappointing evening was compounded when Oskari Laaksonen also received a game misconduct penalty in the final minute for elbowing.

But the night belonged to Skelleftea, who can now complete a whitewash in game four on Monday 13th April. Lulea must now come from 3-0 down to win the series 4-3, something that had never been achieved before in the SHL until Rogle managed it in the quarter-finals earlier this month.
