Erling Haaland has set the Premier League alight in his eight appearances so far, scoring 14 goals for Manchester City at a rate of 1.75 goals per game.

At his current rate, the 22-year-old would end the season on 66 league goals, over a quarter of the way to the all-time Premier League scoring record held by Alan Shearer (260).

The Norwegian already has a total of 107 league goals across his professional career (93 before his 22nd birthday in the summer) including his time at Borussia DortmundSalzburg and Molde FK

It's almost impossible to keep up his current scoring rate across a season - let alone a whole career - due to dips in form, rotation, or injuries, but it does raise the question, how does Haaland compare to the Premier League's top 10 goalscorers when they were 22?

10. Michael Owen

PL Appearances - 134

Goals - 73 (and almost one Ballon d'Or)

By the age of 22, Owen was one of the best talents in the world and looked - much like Haaland does now - that he will go on to be one of the best ever. Owen was awarded the Ballon d'Or four days after his 22nd birthday and remains the last Englishman to win the award. The Liverpool forward went on to join Real Madrid, before returning to the top flight with Newcastle, Manchester United and Stoke, finishing on 150 goals.

9. Jermain Defoe

PL Appearances - 97

Goals - 28

A long career at Tottenham Hotspur is what he is best remembered for, but JD also notched 15 goals in back-to-back seasons with Sunderland and had a stellar England career. Defoe got better with age, ending his Premier League career with 162 goals, but it took him some time to get up to speed in the top flight. To put it into context, it took Defoe 97 games to reach 28 goals, Haaland already has nearly half that tally in just seven appearances.

8. Robbie Fowler

PL Appearances - 137

Goals - 82

Another former Liverpool striker, Fowler had struck 83 times before he turned 22 which is fewer league goals than Haaland, although he hadn't won the biggest individual trophy in football. Fowler finished his career on 163 goals, going on to turn out for Leeds and Manchester City before briefly returning to Liverpool.

7. Thierry Henry

PL Appearances - 3

Goals - 0

A bit of an anomaly on this list, Henry joined Arsenal just weeks before he turned 22 and made just three appearances before his 22nd birthday. However, he had shown promise overseas while playing 121 league games for Monaco and Juventus, scoring 23 goals. This prompted the Gunners to sign him, and he would go on to be the club's record-goalscorer with 175 in the Premier League.

6. Frank Lampard

PL Appearances - 118

Goals - 17

Lampard didn't play the traditional striker role that the majority of others on this list did, but he ended his career with 177 total league goals, the highest of any midfielder in Premier League history. The Champions League winner scored the majority of his goals for Chelsea, where he spent 13 years.

5. Sergio Aguero

PL Appearances - 0

Goals - 0

Like Haaland, Aguero joined the Premier League after he had already turned 22. The Argentine's career somewhat resembles that of his Norweigian replacement, scoring eight goals in his first seven matches for City. He also had a strong CV before moving to England, playing 183 league games between Independiente and Athletico Madrid, scoring 73 goals.

4. Andy Cole

PL/First Division Appearances - 24

Goals - 21

The early years of Cole's career came before the inception of the Premier League when he was playing for Newcastle, but he still managed nearly a goal per game before he reached 22. Although he featured less in his younger years, Cole went on to score 34 times in the inaugural Premier League season and ended up netting 187 goals.

3. Harry Kane

PL Appearances - 48

Goals - 24

The only active player on the list, Kane (29) had his first breakthrough season in 2014/15 before his 22nd birthday the following summer. His total of 25 goals in the next campaign - his first as a 22-year-old - sets the standard for Haaland, who is already nearly half way to that tally. Kane has gone on to be one of the best strikers in world football and looks likely to become England's - and possibly the Premier League's - all-time top scorer.

2. Wayne Rooney

PL Appearances - 136

Goals - 59

Rooney burst onto the scene as a youngster at Everton, before securing a move to Manchester United where he would go on to become one of the best players the Premier League has ever seen. He still holds the record number of goals for England (53) and finished his career with 208 in the league. Like Haaland, both started playing at a professional level from a very young age.

1. Alan Shearer

First Division Appearances - 106

Goals - 22

All of Shearers' eligible goals and appearances came before the inception of the Premier League when he was still plying his trade at Southampton. Like the majority of this list, it took him time to get his goal tally up but once he got going there was no looking back. The Geordie ended his career with 260 Premier League goals, 52 clear of Rooney below him in second.

What sets Haaland apart from the rest on this list is how quickly and efficiently he has reached his 104 career league goals - not to mention his Champions League and international form.

While most players take nearly 200 appearances to reach 100 goals, the Norweigian has done it in just 145 games - with more records still in his sights.
