Lille bounced back from consecutive defeats in the UEFA Europa League Group Phase to return to winning ways with a convincing 4-0 victory over GNK Dinamo Zagreb.

Looking to win their fourth home game in a row, Lille dominated the early exchanges but were given an early fright when the visitors had the ball in the back of the net on seven minutes. Monsef Bakrar did well to power a header home at the back post, but it was clear he had pushed Thomas Meunier with both hands to engineer the space, and it was immediately ruled out by referee John Beaton.

It took 21 minutes for the home side to make their dominance count, but they took their first major chance of the game as Hakon Haraldsson slipped Felix Correia through on goal, and he showed all the composure in the world to stroke the ball between Ivan Filipovic’s legs and into the net.

A second goal, 10 minutes before half-time, put them in a commanding position, and owed everything to a fine piece of play from Hamza Igamane. He appeared to fool the entire Dinamo defence as he cut inside and shaped to shoot, but instead a perfectly-weighted pass found Ngal'ayel Mukau free in the box, and his clinical finish made it 2-0.

The pattern continued after the break as the visitors struggled to create chances, and Filipovic had to make a smart save from Haraldsson just after the hour mark to keep his side in the game.

That save was in vain, however, as Igamane sealed the points a minute later as his angled finish found the far corner after another pinpoint assist from Haraldsson.

Despite the comfortable lead, the home side kept pushing for more goals, and added some gloss to the scoreline on the 86th minute when Benjamin Andre calmly dispatched a loose ball after Filipovic parried the ball in his direction.

The three points boost Lille’s chances of progressing to the knockout rounds as they move on to nine points, whilst Dinamo are still well-placed to advance with seven points, but will likely need at least one more victory to confirm their qualification.
