French centre-back Jeremy Jacquet was unveiled this Wednesday as Liverpool's new signing. The youngster, just 20 years old, arrives from Rennes.

The deal had already been agreed and announced since the start of February. Liverpool paid 64 million euros, plus a further six in add-ons, to Rennes to sign the young Jacquet, aware that they would need to strengthen their defence for the 2026/27 season.

The 20-year-old defender will be the natural replacement for Ibrahima Konate at Anfield. The French centre-back's contract with Liverpool came to an end, and he joined Real Madrid on a free transfer.

Jacquet completed his development at Rennes and broke into the first team in the 2023/24 season. After a season and a half on loan at Clermont, he established himself in Rennes' senior side and was regarded as the most promising centre-back of his generation.

This season, he featured in 21 matches and has not played since February 7th, after suffering a shoulder injury that required surgery.

In his first comments as a Liverpool player, Jacquet admitted he was fulfilling a dream by making the move to the Premier League.

"I'm very happy. When I see the facilities, I can picture myself there. I feel good here and I'm really excited to get started", he said.

"For me, it's a big dream, it's a big club. A club like Liverpool is a huge dream for me," concluded the French defender, who still does not know which number he will wear this season, under the guidance of Andoni Iraola, Liverpool's new manager.

It should be noted that, in addition to Jacquet, last season's fifth-placed Premier League side have also confirmed the signing of Spanish winger Víctor Munoz from Osasuna.
