RC Lens, currently second in Ligue 1, condemned Angers SCO to a sixth consecutive defeat as they prevailed 2-1 at the Stade Raymond-Kopa. The visitors continued their strong away defensive performance this term, having not conceded more than one goal in a single game on the road since early February.

Lens took the lead with the first chance of the game, as Florian Sotoca found Wesley Saïd with a cross and the Frenchman volleyed home from close range. Saïd had a golden opportunity to double the advantage just moments later when David Costa delivered a beautiful ball into the box, but the attacker sliced his volley wide of the post. Lens continued their dominance and went close again as Sotoca received the ball on the edge of the area before shooting, only for his effort to be held by goalkeeper Yahia Fofana.

Angers went close to an equaliser when Adrien Hunou met a corner, but he sent his header a whisker over the bar. Les Sang et Or threatened again through Saïd, as he held off a defender before drilling a thunderous strike just inches wide of the post. Saïd then pounced onto a poor header clear before trying an audacious overhead kick that flew narrowly over the bar.

The away side doubled their lead five minutes into the second half, when Kevin Danso headed the ball back across goal from a free-kick for Facundo Medina to fire home from inside the six-yard box. The visitors continued to push for more goals and nearly added a third through Seko Fofana, but the Ivorian curled an effort just wide of the post after collecting a loose ball on the edge of the area.

Lens continued to dominate late into the game and almost extended the advantage further when Costa’s cross hit the post. The last few minutes were made more difficult when Angers pulled a goal back through Miha Blažič, who nodded in Nabil Bentaleb’s corner, but Franck Haise’s men stood firm to move six points clear of Rennes in third. Meanwhile, Angers continue to prop up the table and sit four points adrift of safety.
