Arizona Diamondbacks' Michael Soroka became the first pitcher of the 2026 season to throw an immaculate inning during Monday's matchup against the Detroit Tigers!

Soroka, 28, tossed a five-inning shutout in his Diamondbacks debut, giving up just four hits and one walk with 10 strikeouts. The veteran signed a small one-year, $7.5 million deal with the team in the offseason, making Arizona his fourth team in four seasons.

There were four immaculate innings thrown last season, and there has been at least one in every year dating back to 2006 - there were none in 2005. Soroka joins Hall of Fame legend Randy Johnson (2001), Byung-Hyun Kim (2002), and Wade Miley (2012) as the only pitchers in Diamondbacks history to throw an immaculate inning.

For those new to baseball, an immaculate inning is when a pitcher records three straight strikeouts on nine pitches (three strikes per batter).

Arizona (0-3) are currently looking for their first win of the season and might potentially earn it with a win over the Tigers tonight as they currently lead 8-2 in their game.
