Ewing, 21, is Major League Baseball's No. 78 overall prospect. The outfielder was batting a stellar .339 in the minors this season (.326 in Triple-A) with two home runs, 11 RBI, and 17 stolen bases.
Ewing was selected by the Mets in the fourth round of the 2023 MLB Draft. After a rather struggling first full season in the minors in 2024, when he hit .233 with 10 home runs in 90 games, the Ohio native turned things around completely in 2025.
Despite hitting fewer home runs (3), Ewing finished his 2025 season in the minors with a whopping 70 stolen bases and 68 walks, all while batting .315 with 55 RBI in 124 games.
His 70 stolen bases ranked fifth-most in all of minor league baseball last season. And of those top five in steals, Ewing was the only one to hit over .300 and record more than 50 RBI.
The New York Mets, who are on pace to be the only team in the league with 100+ losses this season, are tied with the Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers for the sixth-fewest steals (19) this season, something Ewing could change drastically.
They also have the second-worst team batting average (.222) and are tied with the San Francisco Giants for the worst on-base percentage (.287) in all of baseball.
At 15-25 - the worst record in baseball - the Mets are going to need any help they can get, whoever they can get it from.
