Ole Miss kicker Lucas Carneiro capped off a historic night after nailing the 47-yard, game-winning field goal to defeat the Georgia Bulldogs 39-34 as they advance to the College Football Playoff semifinals.

The extra two points came from a last-second safety on the kickoff. Ole Miss will go on to face No. 10 Miami, who defeated No. 2 Ohio State on Wednesday (highlights here).

The other semifinal matchup will be No. 1 Indiana against No. 5 Oregon.

Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss' 13 straight completions (one at the end of the first half, 12 straight to start the second half) set a Sugar Bowl record.

Just a year ago, he was playing Division II football. Now, he's two wins away from leading Ole Miss to a championship.

He finished the game, completing 30-of-46 passes for 362 yards and two touchdowns.

Ole Miss wide receiver Harrison Wallace II would finish with a career high of 156 receiving yards on nine receptions.

First half

Ole Miss got things started in an exciting way that most people wouldn't have guessed heading into the matchup.

Kicker Lucas Carneiro put the Rebels on the board first with a 55-yard field goal - the longest in Sugar Bowl history. That is, until he broke his own record less than five minutes later.

After forcing a Georgia punt in one of the team's many great defensive stands of the night, Carneiro lined up from 56 yards this time.

He would nail it with room to spare to put the Rebels up 6-0.

Georgia would finally find their way onto the scoreboard after a seven-play, 75-yard drive that was capped off with a 12-yard rushing touchdown from quarterback Gunner Stockton

It would be his ninth on the season and his first since the team's 35-10 win over Texas on November 15th.

Ole Miss would respond with a touchdown of their own after a 75-yard drive to go up 12-7.

After a big 39-yard pass from Trinidad Chambliss to De'Zhaun Stribling, and a 17-yard pass to Harrison Wallace III, the Rebels would find the endzone three plays later with a touchdown pass to Luke Hasz

In like fashion, at this point in the game, Stockton would lead his Bulldogs' offence down the field for 75 yards (again) for another rushing touchdown.

After a 26-yard pass to running back Cash Jones in which Stockton got rocked, Georgia's tough QB would take it in himself to put Georgia up 14-12.

Georgia took their first big lead of the game after forcing a fumble on the ensuing Ole Miss drive, returning it to the house to put the Bulldogs up 21-12.

The fumble was forced by Freshman defensive lineman Elijah Griffin and recovered by Senior defensive back Daylen Everette, who returned it for six.

It was Griffin's first career forced fumble and Everette's first-ever defensive touchdown.

Second half

Following a Georgia punt and missed field goal, Ole Miss got on the board with another touchdown to take the lead to 21-19.

Chambliss would complete a big 36-yard pass to Harrison Wallace III that would set up a Kewan Lacy seven-yard touchdown run two plays later.

It would make it eight-straight games with at least one score for Lacy, who has now scored in 14 of Ole Miss' 15 games this season.

After coming up short on his first field goal of the half, Georgia's Peyton Woodring would redeem himself after nailing a 37-yard field goal to put Georgia up 24-19.

Ole Miss would retake the lead to go up 27-24 after Lacy would punch it in for his second touchdown of the game.

After Georgia got the ball back, they would find themselves caught in a 4th and 5 situation, where Ole Miss linebacker Suntarine Perkins would come up with a clutch sack on Stockton to get the ball back.

All it would take was two plays for the Rebels to find the endzone yet again to take a 34-24 lead with under 10 minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Chambliss would find Wallace for his second passing touchdown of the game.

With no time to waste, Georgia went the full 75 yards yet again for another touchdown to cut the lead to 34-31.

Their drive would take just 1:59 off the clock as Stockton would complete his first passing touchdown (third total) of the night on an 18-yarder to Zachariah Branch, who hauled it in on an incredible diving catch.

After a no-call on a facemask when they were on defense, Georgia received a crucial pass interference call that put them at Ole Miss' 20 yard line with under two minutes left to go in the game.

Ole Miss would be called for another crucial penalty on a defensive holding, which gave Georgia yet another automatic first down that put Georgia on their eight yard line.

But the Ole Miss defence would hold strong to force a Georgia chip-shot field goal, leaving the game tied 34-34 with 57 seconds.

That's when the man of the hour, Lucas Carneiro, came in to hit the game-winning field goal.

Ole Miss would finish with 431 yards, 22 first downs, eight tackles for loss, six pass deflections, and two sacks.

Georgia finished with 355 yards, 23 first downs, seven pass deflections, and three tackles for loss. Stockton put up 235 total yards and three touchdowns.
