Swedish Olympic and World Champion, Armand "Mondo" Duplantis, tonight improved his world record in pole vault when he cleared 6, 31 metres at his own event "Mondo Classic" in Uppsala, Sweden.

The new record was one centimeter higher than the record he set at the World Championships in Tokyo in September 2025. Duplantis cleared the bar in his first attempt.

It was the 15th time Duplantis set a pole vault world record. He did it for the first time when he cleared the bar at 6, 17 meters in February 2020. Since then, he has increased the record by one centimeter at a time.

Sondre Guttormsen came in second with a jump of 6 meters, six centimeters short of his personal best. Guttormsen made three attempts at 6, 08 meters, but failed in all attempts.

"Mondo" was born and raised in Louisiana. He represents Sweden, his mother’s native country.

Duplantis has won 38 successive competitions since August 2023, breaking the world record no less than nine times during that stretch alone, including on his third and final attempt at the Paris Olympics and at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo.

Before Duplantis, the Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie set a new record in 2014 after Ukrainian Sergey Bubka had broken the outdoor world record 17 times and the indoor world record 18 times between 1984 and 1994
