Pisa are still searching for their first Serie A victory in over 34 years, following the Nerazzurri’s 0-0 draw against Lazio at the Arena Garibaldi, which does at least see Alberto Gilardino’s side move out of the relegation zone.

Going into this game, Pisa had failed to score a single goal at home in Serie A this season, and their confidence in the final third would not have improved one bit when Matteo Tramoni squandered an excellent opportunity to give the hosts the lead after only seven minutes.

Pisa’s frustrations continued in the 25th minute, as an excellent left-wing delivery from Juan Cuadrado found Idrissa Toure inside the penalty area, but the midfielder somehow missed the target altogether with his close-range effort.

The visitors came very close to breaking the deadlock shortly after the half-hour mark when Adrian Semper was forced into an impressive save to deny Gustav Isaksen, following an excellent run and lay-off from Tramoni.

With growing momentum behind them, Lazio came even closer to edging in front a few minutes later, as Toma Basic’s rasping long-range shot cannoned off the post.

The second half was a largely poor spectacle with little quality on offer from either team.

In one of the very few glimpses of goal following the interval, Isaksen saw a close-range shot ripple the side netting, when he should arguably have forced Pisa’s goalkeeper into action.

With the match in danger of petering out completely, substitute Stefano Moreo almost sent the home supporters wild in the 73rd minute, forcing a smart save from Ivan Provedel with a header from a corner to keep the contest goalless.

The opportunity appeared to inject some belief into the hosts, and shortly after, Toure saw his headed effort drift narrowly wide of the post.

However, despite a hard-fought affair, a goal proved elusive, and neither side could find the breakthrough before the final whistle was blown.

While Pisa fans will undoubtedly be delighted to see their team move out of the bottom three, there will surely be growing concerns about the side’s lack of firepower, with only five goals netted in their opening nine league games of the campaign.

A point on the road for Lazio sees the Aquile move up two positions to 11th, and extends their unbeaten run to five matches.
