Magnus Cort on Tuesday afternoon claimed his first win of the year and his first at World Tour level since the 2024 Criterium du Dauphiné when he won the second stage of the 2026 Volta a Catalunya in a sprint finish.

Todays stage was mostly controlled by INEOS Grenadiers and NSN Cycling Team throughout a flat stage that certainly presented the best opportunity for the sprinters all week long.

Cort wasn't to miss his big opportunity as the Dane soared through to take a strong comeback win in the final metres, with Noah Isidore and Francesco Busatto coming in second and third on the stage.

"It's fantastic. It's something I've dreamed of, but it wasn't easy. It's cool, and I didn't have much faith in it myself, and I sat too far back. (Anders) Skaarseth kept waiting for me, and then I have no idea how we found our way through the field.

"It was a disgustingly hard final for everyone. (Anton) Charmig was a little too far ahead, and I had to yell at him. He opened the sprint, and I could follow. But I didn't have much energy left in my legs in the last 200 meters", said Cort to TV2 Sport after the win.
