Shaun Murphy overturned an early deficit to beat Scotland’s Anthony McGill 10-7 and claim his first British Open crown.
Murphy, chasing a first ranking trophy in more than two years, had trailed for much of Sunday’s final. He edged in front for the first time with a break of 78 at the start of the evening session, going 5-4 up.
McGill responded with a composed 73 that put him 7-6 up, before Murphy reasserted control in style. The Englishman rattled off the last four frames to seal victory in Cheltenham.
Murphy pocketed £100,000 for the win, while McGill’s run earned him £45,000 -- a solid return for a player seeking to re-establish himself.
