The Burnley forward netted the winner as Bafana beat Angola 2-1 in their Group B opener earlier this week, as they now face an Egyptian side who edged Zimbabwe by the same scoreline.
For the winner, qualification to the knockout stages is virtually guaranteed with a game to spare, and Foster says there is a confidence in the South African squad that they can get a positive result against Mohamed Salah, Omar Marmoush and company.
“The morale in camp is good. As the coach (Hugo Broos) said, the first game was very important for us to get maximum points and it helped a lot,” Foster told reporters.
“Going into the rest of the tournament, the morale in the camp is high, spirits are good, and we’re confident and ready for the next game.
“It’s an important match for both teams. We both have three points, and it will tell us a lot about where we are. We’re focused on our preparation and hoping for a good result.”
South Africa have not lost a competitive fixture on the field of play under Broos in almost two years, since a defeat to Mali in their 2023 AFCON opener.
Foster says they will not let complacency slip in as they try to keep that run going.
“Sometimes complacency can slip in, but we’re big on driving our own standards and we’ve shown that over the last year or so. It’s up to us to keep that going, and that’s a big motivation for us and something we’re proud of.
“We don’t go into the game thinking about that streak though. It’s about the three points and focusing on the task at hand. Hopefully we can get a favourable result. We’re confident.”
Foster’s winner against Angola in the last game was his ninth goal in 26 international caps and as the lead forward in the squad, he has a big part to play in any potential success.
“For me, I’m proud to be at this AFCON after missing the last one. I’m trying to impose myself and understand the competition and just help the team as much as possible,” he said.
“Naturally, when you score a winning goal you feel good, but the three points are the most important thing.
“We just have to carry on from there and create more moments like that to give ourselves the best chance of doing well in this tournament, and I think that’s very possible.”
Foster also praised the facilities and organisation of the tournament, which has led to some excellent matches so far.
“The hospitality in Morocco has been great so far. The hotels and logistics have been very good and everything has been seamless for us.
"We’re very happy with the services we’re getting as a team, which has allowed us to perform to the best of our abilities.”
