Hammarby's perfect start was ended at the weekend with a loss to Mjallby, but they were still a point clear of Malmo, who had drawn their most recent two before the pair met in Stockholm.
The match was end to end, but neither side was creating many clear cut opportunities, particularly in the first half.
The breathrough finall came 16 minutes from time, when Sebastian Tounekti showed tenacity to beat his man on the outside and get to the by-line, and whether he was attempting a cross or a shot from a wide angle, the ball squirmed under goalkeeper Ricardo Friedrich, and the backtracking Busanello failed to clear off his line.
Five minutes from the end, the home side sealed the points when a corner was cleared only to the edge of the area, where Markus Karlsson was ready to fire through a crowd and past Friedrich for 2-0.
Staying top of the pile with four wins and a draw from their first five matches are AIK, but they left it late on Thursday to squeeze past Varnamo, 2-1, leaving the home side still without a point this season.
Late in the first half, Mads Thychosen turned home a cross from the left to give AIK the lead, but they failed to press home their advantage. They were made to pay 10 minutes from the end, when Emin Grozdanic found an equaliser for the hosts.
But Varnamo could not hold on, and with three minutes to go were undone by a wonderful AIK attack which began deep in their own half, and Johan Hove was on hand to finish off the move.
All four wins for the Gnaget have come by the odd goal, while all five Varnamo defeats have also been by a one-goal margin.
Mjallby backed up their win over Hammarby by remaining unbeaten and picking up a third successive win, this time against Halmstad, 3-1 away from home on Wednesday.
Jacob Bergstrom fed a nice ball through to Nicklas Rojkjaer midway through the first half, but the home side drew level on the stroke of half-time when Yannick Agnero was on hand to tap home a rebound after Naeem Mohammed's effort ricocheted onto the crossbar.
But the visitors stamped their authority early in the second period, when Bergstrom picked up a second assist by teeing up Abdoulie Manneh.
17 minutes from time, a beautiful curling cross from Ludwig Thorell was put on a plate for Herman Johansson to head past the goalkeeper.
Mjallby sit third in the table, two points off the pace, as Halmstad stay in the bottom two.
Wednesday night also saw two goal fests, as Elfsborg beat Sirius 4-3 and Degerfors won 4-3 away at Hacken.
Elfsborg appear to be over their slow start by picking up a third win in a row. They led 2-1 at the break as Ari Sigurpalsson and Taylor Silverholt scored either side of Leo Walta's penalty.
Sirius turned the game on its head early in the second half, with a strike from Robbie Ure and a second of the game for Walta, before Rasmus Wikstrom equalised with a quarter of the match remaining.
The game seemed to be heading for a draw, until four minutes from time when the Sirius defence failed to clear a cross which made its way through to Simon Hedlund arriving at the back post and he smashed home the winner.
At the Bravida Arena, Hacken almost pulled off an unbelievable comeback, but they came up a goal short against Degerfors.
The visitors scored the only goal of the first half when Leon Hien's low free-kick found the bottom corner, before the Gothenburg side drew level through Severin Nioule 10 minutes after the break.
But two goals in three minutes from Nahom Girmai and Elias Pihlstrom put the newly-promoted side in firm control, and it looked like the points were sealed when Pihlstrom drove in his second approaching 15 minutes to play.
A Simon Gustafson penalty sparked the comeback hopes with 10 minutes left, before Pontus Dahbo made it 4-3 in the 84th minute. Degerfors were made to grind it out for eight minutes of injury time, but they held on to move onto nine points.
The goals were in shorter supply in the rest of Thursday's action.
In the second match in as many nights at 3Arena, Djurgarden got their first domestic win for three matches, but needed an own goal from Mattis Adolfsson in the 87th minute to beat Oster 1-0. The visitors have now lost four of five since promotion.
Back in Gothenburg, a Hylnur Karlsson goal gave Brommapojkarna the half-time lead at GAIS. But an equaliser from Ibrahim Diabate allowed the Mackerels to hold on for a 1-1 draw, despite Robin Wendin being sent off late on.
There were five goals in Norrkoping, however, and it was visitors IFK Goteborg who scored the bulk of them, coming from 2-0 down at the break to win 3-2 for a third win of the season.
In-form Christoffer Nyman gave the hosts the lead before Max Watson made it 2-0 on the stroke of of half-time.
Sebastian Clemmensen reduced the deficit just after the hour mark, before Max Fenger, whose penalty was not enough at the weekend as Goteborg were beaten by Hacken, scored twice in nine minutes to snatch victory, with the winner coming from the spot again.
