The Buccaneers have won their last nine home games in a row in all competitions and are just one shy of the all-time PSL record of 10.
It is one of the reasons why Pirates have catapulted up the Betway Premiership table, and could go top this weekend with any away draw or win at Durban City.
Four teams have managed 10 home wins in succession in the PSL era, which started in the 1996/97 season.
Santos were the first in 2001, though the streak straddled two seasons, the tail-end of 2000/01 and the start of the 2001/02 campaign, when they would go on to lift the title under coach Gordon Igesund.
Their run was ended by a 1-1 home draw with Black Leopards, and they took just a single point from the next two games on their own patch as well.
Kaizer Chiefs were the next to achieve the feat when they won 10 home games in a row in the 2013/14 season, though they did not win the title that year.
They claimed the championship the season before and the one after, but in this campaign lost out despite their excellent run, which was ended by a 1-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the league.
Sundowns were the next to go on a 10-game home winning streak in all competitions from April to October 2016, before they lost 2-1 at home in the league to Cape Town City, a side who would become a nemesis for them down the years.
And Sundowns repeated the feat with another 10-game home winning run in the 2022/23 season, before it was again ended by Cape Town City, who drew 0-0 in Pretoria.
Orlando Pirates will not get the chance to match the run of 10 games until they face, ironically, Sundowns in the league on January 31 after the Africa Cup of Nations finals.
That will be a huge game in the context of the Betway Premiership season, but if they do manage to win, then their next scheduled home game is against Marumo Gallants on February 15.
But there is also a chance they will be drawn at home in the Nedbank Cup, with the Last 32 ties scheduled to be played between February 4–10.
Their run is all the more remarkable in that they have conceded just a single goal in their nine wins to date, while scoring 17 themselves.
That proficiency at the back has been a huge bonus for them this season when they have not always found goals easy to come by.
