Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou says he never doubted his ability as a coach, even when the club struggled at the start of the season and lost their opening two league matches.

Pirates are now on a seven-match winning streak, which has seen them into the second round of both the African Champions League and Carling Knockout, plus move into third in the South African league standings.

“People sometimes are very fast to judge people. We are in a very big ecosystem in the world and we know the business, and that only the results are important,” said Ouaddou, the former Morocco centre back who played for Fulham in the Premier League and Stade Rennes in France during his playing days.

“It's very important not to have doubt about your competency, about what you can bring to our continent. I'm a very proud African. I'm a very proud ex player. I'm very proud to work on our continent and to bring my knowledge for the players, for the club,” he said as Pirates prepared for a two-week break for the World Cup qualifiers.

Their last match before the break was a 1-0 win over Siwelele in Saturday’s Carling Knockout first round tie at the Orlando Stadium.

“I'm very happy to share this fantastic moment with the fans. Fans everywhere, who love football. It's why we call them fans. We don't call them supporters. We call them fans, and, of course, sometimes they want the best for the club and I'm not disappointed at all about the judgement that some people did before.

“It just pushed me to give my best for the players, for the club, and it's what it should be. Every time when I wake up, I love my job, I love my players. I love the club, because the club giving me everything to work well.”

But Ouaddou said despite the winning run, Pirates needed to keep their feet on the ground.

“We are in a good place, but at any time, you know, you can have a bad moment, and even in that time, you don't have to doubt about your ability. You have to continue. It's our daily work,” he added.
