One of the truly great Champions League match-ups of recent years will take place again this Wednesday, as Premier League leaders Arsenal host unbeaten Bundesliga table-toppers Bayern Munich.

It's another chance for Harry Kane to return to North London and once again potentially drive a dagger through the Gunners' hearts.

The 15th meeting between the sides

The game will bring together Mikel Arteta and Vincent Kompany once more, of course. The former was Pep Guardiola's assistant at Manchester City from 2016 to 2019, when the latter was captain of the first team.

Therefore, it's unlikely either will surprise their opposite number in terms of their tactics on the night.

The last time the two teams met at the Emirates Stadium, they played out an exciting 2-2 draw. Serge Gnabry and Kane were on the scoresheet for the Bavarians, with Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard scoring for Arsenal.

In total, there have been 14 matches contested in the Champions League since December 2000, with the North Londoners winning three, another three being drawn, and Bayern winning the remaining eight.

Bayern's incredible UCL record

Bayern haven't actually lost to the Gunners since the 2015/16 group stage, winning four games in total - including three 5-1 victories - and drawing the other.

Arteta should also be aware that Arsenal have won only two of their last nine European games against German sides (D1, L6).

In terms of UCL group or league stage games, the Bavarians' record is even more impressive given that they've won 45 and drawn four of their 52 games since a 3-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.

What makes this game particularly exciting, however, is that Arsenal are the only team that haven't conceded a goal in the competition this season, and Bayern have scored the joint-most, 14 in four matches. They've also hit the woodwork on another seven separate occasions.

Goals virtually guaranteed

Goals are therefore virtually guaranteed, especially given that only one of Bayern’s last 73 European games has finished goalless.

Both clubs sit atop the Champions League table on 12 points and have a +11 goal difference, and in terms of current form, neither could be playing any better.

The North Londoners have lost just one Premier League match in 2025/26 against Liverpool, have let in only six goals and scored 24 in their 12 matches. They're also unbeaten in 15 in all competitions since that defeat, winning 13 of them.

Bayern have remained unbeaten since the start of the season, winning 10 and drawing one of their 11 Bundesliga games, letting in eight goals and scoring an incredible 41. In all competitions, they've won 17 of their 18 matches.

Harry Kane seeking to extend Emirates record

Kane has 14 of those league goals and three assists, and has been on target on five more occasions in the UCL.

He also has 15 goals against Arsenal in 21 games in all competitions during his career, as well as six goals in 10 games at the Emirates, making him the visiting player who's scored the most goals there.

The former Tottenham man has taken the most shots for his team in the competition (17) and had the most on target (10), with Saka's 13 total shots and seven on target the best return for the Gunners.

Though Luis Diaz, who has been similarly effective for Bayern this season, is suspended for this match, the likes of Michael Olise and Nicolas Jackson could still prove to be a handful alongside the former Tottenham man.

Arsenal, meanwhile, could welcome back Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Odegaard from injury, but they will be without centre-back Gabriel. The game also comes too soon for both Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz.

Olise and Eze meet again

Olise will, of course, come face-to-face with his former Crystal Palace colleague, Eberechi Eze.

The former has created the most chances for his team in the competition in 2025/26 (11), whilst the latter has begun to find his feet in North London and his first hat-trick for his new club, in the derby against Tottenham, could not have been better timed.

Whilst Eze was putting the Lilywhites to the sword, Olise also scored twice and assisted for three more goals in Bayern's 6-2 comeback win over Freiburg; a victory which saw the club top the German top-flight table for the 43rd consecutive week, equalling a record that was set way back in the early 1970s.

This promises to be another fascinating encounter, and one which neither side will want to lose.

With only three more league phase games to play after this one, any victory would put the winner in the box seat in terms of potentially finishing top of the tree before the knockout rounds.
