Stockholm's own Daniel Stensson was one of the heroes on the night yesterday for Djurgarden, as they resoundingly saw off the challenge of Pafos in the UEFA Conference League Round of 16.

Stensson scored a stunning individual goal to put The Iron Stoves 2-0 up in the second leg and hand them the lead in the tie for the first time.

Djurgarden went on to win the match 3-0, sealing a 3-1 aggregate win to reach the Quarter-finals of any European competition for the first time in 69 years.

After the match, lifelong Djurgarden fan Stensson summed up what the night meant to him, speaking to UEFA.com.

"It's my boyhood club. I grew up watching these guys, and it means everything to me, so I'm very happy that I can contribute to the success."

The 27-year-old certainly contributed to success that followed a disappointing first leg in Cyprus, prompting manager Jani Honkavaara calling on his side "to step up and show what we are all about."

The much-improved performance at the 3Arena, Honkavaara was quick to praise his side's response.

“The team showed big mental strength today. So that was the ultimate thing."

Austrian trip awaits in Quarter-finals

A few hours after the victory, Djurgarden discovered their opponents in the last eight will be Rapid Vienna of Austria, who beat Bosnian side Borac Banja Luka 3-2 on aggregate.

The first leg will be played in Stockholm on Thursday, April 10th, before Djurgarden travel to Vienna for the return leg on Thursday, April 17th. Both matches will kick-off at 21:00 CEST.
