The 20-year-old Rijkhoff left Ajax in 2021 to join Borussia Dortmund, where he was a prolific striker for their U19s with 65 goals in 81 matches across the German youth competition and UEFA Youth League.
Rijkhoff returned to Ajax in February 2024, but has failed to make an impression in the senior squad with no goals in 11 outings. During the 2024/25 season, manager Francesco Farioli only handed the young striker 16 minutes in the very first game of the season, in a UEFA Europa League qualifier against Serbian side FK Vojvodina.
In 42 games for U21 side Jong Ajax since his return, Rijkhoff has scored 15 goals.
'Unable to make the step'
Now, he will continue in the Dutch second tier for Almere City.
"Unfortunately, Julian was unable to make the definitive step up to Ajax 1 last season," technical director Alex Kroes said on the club website.

"In Almere, he will have the opportunity to compete for the title and continue to develop himself in a different environment. We have wished him every success and will, of course, be keeping a close eye on his development."
Julian Rijkhoff is under contract at Ajax until 2027.
