Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has spoken to the media ahead of this week's clash with Cardiff City.

Chelsea come up against Cardiff after narrow wins over Lincoln City and bottom of the Premier League Wolves in what is the only non-all-Premier League quarter-final.

Maresca explains 'worst 48 hours' comment

The Blues have won each of their last five EFL Cup quarter-final clashes and will be confident heading into this week’s clash against the League One side. Maresca first gave an update on his comments, in which he said the last two days have been the "worst 48 hours" of his time at the club so far.

“I already spoke about that and I don't have nothing to add. It's Cardiff tomorrow, please. I already spoke about that and I think I was quite clear. No more than that.

“I respect your opinion and people's opinion. I have nothing to add. My focus is on tomorrow's game and that we can achieve the third semi-final in my time at the club.

“We are in an era where everyone can say what they think. I respect people's opinions, your opinion, but I have nothing to add. My focus is on tomorrow. I already answered the question and my focus is on tomorrow. I don't have nothing to add.”

Is he committed to being Chelsea’s head coach: “Absolutely, yes.”

Chelsea want to go all the way

Maresca dodged more questions about his comments before being asked about ambition in the EFL Cup and if his team has the winning mentality to reach the final and lift the trophy before the end of the season.

"These are the worst games for these reasons. Football is full of these kind of games. The focus needs to be on Cardiff.

"It's something that we want to achieve for the fans. It's a club with all its history, we need to do our best tomorrow to try and achieve the third semi-final.

"It's the main thing. Since I joined the club, I always tried to say the same; building a winning mentality by winning games. Tomorrow is another chance to be in another semi-final and it's an important moment for everyone at the club.

"I think we are in the right direction. There are some moments where we dropped some points but it is part of the journey. I have the feeling we are getting better and better."

When asked about expectations to win trophies at Chelsea, Maresca admitted that he understands that fans expect the West London club to challenge for every piece of silverware.

"When you are Chelsea manager, you understand that the expectations are higher. This season, compared to last season, they are even higher. It is something normal when you are Chelsea player or manager."
