Eredivisie record champions Ajax snapped a four-game losing streak on Tuesday, beating FC Groningen 2-0 at an empty Johan Cruyff ArenA.

After the match was abandoned in the sixth minute on Sunday evening due to fireworks being set off in the stands, an empty Johan Cruyff ArenA was the stage for the final 84 minutes of the Eredivisie match between Ajax and FC Groningen.

Ajax were forced to change their team in one spot, with Rayane Bounida, who started on Sunday, unable to play due to illness. Oscar Gloukh replaced the young Belgian without Ajax having to use a substitute, as ruled by the KNVB.

The visitors got the early chances on Monday via Brynjolfur Willumsson and Thom van Bergen, the latter of whom got the biggest chance when Vitezslav Jaros was forced to make a stellar save from up close.

Despite Groningen's early chances, Ajax jumped out in front when Mika Godts was launched deep onto the away side's half by Kenneth Taylor, after which the Belgian winger dribbled his way past goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen and easily slotted the ball home.

Jaros was forced to act again soon after Godts' opener when Willumsson created more danger inside the box. The Czech stopper pulled off a good save, however, keeping his side up one in a closely fought first half.

Godts came close to adding a second right before half-time, were it not for Vaessen expertly keeping the Belgian's effort out of the bottom corner.

Following the break, Jaros became Ajax's hero twice more when Younes Taha fired two dangerous shots from outside the box, both of which were saved by the Czech Liverpool loanee.

After Mika Godts hit the post, 18-year-old Aaron Bouwman scored his maiden professional goal after cleverly dinking the ball past the near post from a corner.

More danger from the Amsterdam outfit, who are still led by caretaker manager Fred Grim, wouldn't materialise for a while as Groningen stepped up in an attempt to get back in the game. David van der Werff and Ajax loanee Dies Janse both tested Jaros, but were met with more saves from the Czech.

The 17-year-old Pharell Nash was given a memorable debut in an empty stadium, replacing Mika Godts for his first official minutes in the senior side. The youngster almost continued an Ajax tradition by scoring on his debut, but Kenneth Taylor's pass across the goal rolled just past the sprinting Nash.

Neither team would find the net in the closing stages, as Ajax took home their first win since October 26th, courtesy of goals from Mika Godts and Aaron Bouwman. A trip away to Fortuna Sittard on Saturday, December 6th, is next on the calendar for Ajax.
