Midfielder Quinten Timber is set to leave Feyenoord after the Rotterdam club and Olympique Marseille reportedly agreed on a transfer of the former captain.

Olympique Marseille are reportedly paying a fixed fee of €4.5 million for Timber, whose Feyenoord deal is set to expire in the summer. The transfer fee could rise via "difficult add-ons", Fabrizio Romano reported.

The Netherlands international is Marseille's second done deal of the day after the French giants reached an agreement with Arsenal on the loan signing of youngster Ethan Nwaneri.

The 24-year-old Timber joined Feyenoord from FC Utrecht in 2022, one year after leaving the Ajax academy. The midfielder has since played 124 games for the Rotterdam giants, scoring 21 goals and providing 18 assists.

Row with Van Persie

Quinten Timber, the twin brother of Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber, was Feyenoord's captain during the 2024/25 season, but had his captaincy stripped from him by manager Robin van Persie.

After dropping Timber to the bench for Feyenoord's Eredivisie game against Sparta Rotterdam, Van Persie took to the press to criticise Timber for his lack of work ethic in practice. His press appearance left Timber least impressed, and the midfielder responded via an impromptu interview on ESPN after Feyenoord's 4-3 loss.

"I think it's a bit of a shame that it has to be this way," Timber said. "It's happened a few times now that the coach hasn't protected the player. In this case, it was me again. There is a limit. It's happening again now. It seems like a puppet show where people are now saying I am not doing anything. That needs to be made clear."

Following Timber's interview, Van Persie confirmed during the post-game press conference that if it was up to him, Timber would not have a future at Feyenoord.

At Olympique Marseille, Timber joins former teammate Igor Paixao, who left Feyenoord for l'OM last summer.
