With less than a week to go before the deadline of the January transfer window, 41-year-old stopper Remko Pasveer has reportedly asked to return to his former club, Heracles Almelo, to end his career at the club he spent six seasons with.
Pasveer joined Ajax in 2021 and served as the club's first-choice goalkeeper for several seasons, amassing 100 appearances for the Amsterdam giants. His 46 clean sheets across all competitions are the second-most among all goalkeepers with at least 20 appearances for Ajax, according to Opta data.
This season, Pasveer has mostly played second fiddle to Liverpool loanee Vitezslav Jaros. With youngsters Paul Reverson and Joeri Heerkens, Ajax also have future options in the squad.
Maarten Paes close to joining
With Pasveer leaving Ajax, the Amsterdam club have turned to FC Dallas stopper Maarten Paes to fill the void. Paes, a 10-time Indonesian international, has spent the last 3.5 years at Dallas, where he's been the first-choice goalkeeper and played 128 games.
Paes was voted an MLS All-Star in 2024, alongside former Spurs standout Hugo Lloris and ex-Dortmund stopper Roman Burki.
Paes is a familiar face to both Alex Kroes, the current technical director at Ajax, and Jordi Cruyff, who will take over from Kroes on February 1st. The 27-year-old former FC Utrecht goalkeeper is a client at SEG, the football agency Kroes co-founded, while his time with the Indonesian national team will have made him familiar with Cruyff, who's still serving as an advisor to the Indonesian FA.
According to Voetbal International, Paes will cost Ajax a little over €1 million, with the goalkeeper's contract with FC Dallas set to expire in December 2026. Paes will sign a contract until July 2029.
