As Flashscore reported yesterday, Stije Resink is Benfica’s top target to strengthen their midfield.
Now, according to Voetbal International's Joost Blaauwhof, the 22-year-old midfielder is already close to reaching a verbal agreement with the Eagles, with a salary of 1.5 to 2 million euros per year awaiting Resink in Lisbon.
Stije Resink, who came up through Almere City and is in his second season at Groningen, was reportedly contacted directly by José Mourinho last Sunday in a video call that quickly convinced him about Benfica’s project.
Benfica have offered Stije Resink a 3.5-year deal, with only an official bid and agreement with Groningen still pending.
The Dutch club had no intention of selling any players this winter, especially not their captain, but the midfielder’s desire to join Benfica could prove decisive.
According to information gathered by Flashscore, Benfica is prepared to offer up to 7 million euros, plus three million in bonuses, for a player who cost Groningen six million euros.
Stije Resink is in his second season with the Dutch club, having played 47 official matches, 20 of them this season, with four goals and five assists. Flashscore values him at 6.9 million euros.
