Reigning Eredivisie champions PSV annihilated Feyenoord on Sunday, booking a commanding 3-0 win to take a massive 17-point lead at the top of the table.

Both teams entered the weekend on the back of European defeats, with PSV falling 2-1 to Bayern Munich and Feyenoord losing against Real Betis with the same scoreline.

PSV manager Peter Bosz kept Curaçao international Armando Obispo in his starting XI, while Esmir Bajraktarevic was given the start on the right wing in the absence of Dennis Man.

Robin van Persie's Feyenoord saw six new names compared to last Thursday's game. Ayase Ueda returned to the lineup, Oussama Targhalline and Hwang In-Beom were put in midfield, and defender Jeremiah St. Juste was given his first minutes since returning to the club after almost seven years.

Miraculous opening phase

The afternoon started disastrously for Feyenoord, who conceded the first goal inside the first ten minutes - Obispo headed in a free-kick from Joey Veerman, who recorded his 11th league assist of the season thanks to a mishap from Feyenoord goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther.

PSV hit the throttle and doubled the lead already in the 13th minute via Guus Til, who put a cross from Mauro Junior in an empty net after Wellenreuther dove underneath the ball.

Things went from bad to worse for Van Persie's team, who conceded a third before the 20-minute mark when a loose ball was ignored by three Feyenoord players, giving Paul Wanner the chance to take it and pass it off to Ismael Saibari, who could freely score the 3-0 in the 18th minute.

Despite calls from PSV fans to score 10 - a nod to PSV's famous 10-0 win over Feyenoord in 2010 - the first half quietly grew stale following Saibari's goal. Ayase Ueda was denied a chance after Mauro Junior rushed back to stop the Japanese striker from freely rushing at Wellenreuther's goal, while Saibari and Til forced two saves out of Wellenreuther shortly before half-time.

With Feyenoord unable to put any pressure on PSV's commanding lead, the hosts took the foot off the gas in the second half, with only Couhaib Driouech and Guus Til exciting the crowd with two headers.

A sold-out Philips Stadion chanted for their team, who would take an astonishing 17-point lead at the top of the table with a win over Feyenoord. The 3-0 lead filled the home crowd with confidence, as heard by their "Stand up for the champions" chant.

Feyenoord's first big chance of the half came after 80 minutes, when Goncalo Borges fired a loose corner far over Matej Kovar's goal. Not long after his chance, the Portuguese winger saw his game end early after picking up a direct red card in the 84th minute.

It was the visitors' first and last chance of the half, which saw PSV control the game and easily hold on to a 3-0 lead in their most important game of the season.

PSV are now 17 points clear at the top of the Eredivisie table.
