Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven have become Eredivisie champions for the third consecutive season and the 27th time in club history after Feyenoord failed to beat FC Volendam on Sunday, making PSV's 17-point lead impossible for rivals to overtake.

PSV bested FC Utrecht 4-3 in a spectacular game that got Peter Bosz's side a giant step closer to the title.

To win it this weekend, PSV needed Feyenoord to drop points away at FC Volendam, who beat PSV in February, on Sunday. Manager Robin van Persie and his Feyenoord side did PSV a favour by drawing 0-0 in Volendam, crowning the Eindhoven giants champions for the 27th time.

Even with a Feyenoord win on Sunday, PSV's lead would've been 15 points with 5 games remaining, but the Eindhoven side would've boasted a much better goal difference (+42 over +22 at least).

Story of the season

The imperious Eindhoven side dominated from the start of the season, with PSV winning a staggering 15 of the 17 games in the first half of the 2025/26 campaign, giving them an 11-point lead at the halfway point.

Between September 27th and January 17th, PSV did nothing but win, as a 13-game winning streak, which saw the club break the Eredivisie record of most consecutive away wins with 14, earned them a 16-point lead, as PSV fans already started to prepare for a championship party.

As Feyenoord and Ajax kept struggling, PSV took full advantage, beating Feyenoord 3-0 on February 1st and dealing the competition a hard blow as the title now all but seemed PSV's to lose.

After tumbling in the Dutch Cup semifinal in late February, NEC Nijmegen came back to haunt PSV a second time to spoil a potential title party on March 14th with a shocking 3-2 win in Eindhoven. The loss meant PSV had to wait at least another week for the 27th league title, after which Telstar handed PSV another shock loss.

On their third attempt, PSV struck gold, thus becoming the earliest champions by date in Eredivisie history, beating their own record set on April 8th, 1978.

Dynasty

PSV's third consecutive Eredivisie title makes the Eindhoven outfit the first team to win three-straight since Ajax did so between 2019 and 2022, when the Amsterdam giants won three consecutive titles under Erik ten Hag.

PSV have won three consecutive Eredivisie titles twice before. Jan Reker and Guus Hiddink won four titles in a row with PSV between 1986 and 1989, one year after the club's historic Europa Cup I triumph. Between 2005 and 2008, PSV also won four consecutive league titles, then under the tutelage of Sef Vergoossen, Ronald Koeman, and, again, Guus Hiddink.
