Feyenoord manager Brian Priske (47) wants to take the fight to league leaders PSV ahead of their KNVB Cup quarter-final of next week.

Feyenoord lost the Klassieker derby against Ajax after Kenneth Taylor scored the winner in the 94th minute. Neither team created many chances but it were the home team who widened the gap to 12 points to their bitter rivals.

But even with this big a gap to the coveted second spot, Priske refuses to let the standings dictate him or his team.

"I am not concerned with the league table," said the Dane after the loss. "I did see fighting spirit in my team. A team that did everything to get points. That didn't work out.

"We gave the goals away too easily. Feyenoord need to do better."

Priske has been under scrutiny after a series of disappointing results and had to endure a new load of criticism after Feyenoord lost 6-1 away at Lille in last Wednesday's Champions League meeting.

With just days to go before their crucial cup game against league leaders PSV, Priske is awaiting a big rebound game.

"We are going to win the game in Eindhoven. That's what I'm focusing on now."

'Sour' captain returns with goal

Feyenoord captain Quinten Timber made his return in the derby after having missed all games of the calendar years so far. The 23-year-old midfielder celebrated his return with the equaliser, but couldn't enjoy it too much afterwards.

"I'm sitting here with a sour feeling," said Timber. "Things have to improve at Feyenoord. That is clear. A lot has happened in the last month."

The captain made clear that some tough conversations were had after the second loss to Ajax this season. What exactly was said, he didn't say.

"That's not something for the outside world."
