FC Midtjylland star striker Franculino will not be in action for the rest of the year after he was injured in Sunday's match against Viborg FF.

FC Midtjylland will have to do without top scorer Franculino Dju when the team plays against Belgian outfit Genk in the Europa League on Thursday.

The striker from Guinea-Bissau was taken off after 33 minutes in the 3-3 draw against Viborg on Sunday and will not be back on the pitch until 2025.

"He is injured and will not play again this year", said head coach Mike Tullberg at a press conference at the MCH Arena on Wednesday afternoon, without wanting to set a date for when the striker will be ready again.

Franculino has been in outstanding form for FC Midtjylland this season, scoring no less than 21 goals in 30 matches across tournaments.

The Danish outfit is currently in second place in the Europa League on points, with leaders Olympique Lyon and Aston Villa (in third place) having won four out of five matches in the prestigious competition.

A win over Genk will almost guarantee access to the next stage of the tournament with two rounds left, and Mike Tulleberg's side will then surpass 15 points which was enough to qualify directly into the round of 16 last season.

"We are incredibly proud of how we have represented the club in Europe. And we are aware that we can do something historic if we get into the top 8."

"It's not because we don't talk about it. But we spend time on each match and on preparing the team as best as possible for the task", says Mike Tullberg.
