Veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who has come out of retirement for the World Cup, watched this one from the stands due to an injury, allowing Oliver Baumann to feature in between the posts for Julian Nagelsmann’s charges.
Like Neuer, Baumann was effectively a mere spectator in a first period that saw the hosts pile the pressure on Lukas Hradecky’s goal, as Deniz Undav and Florian Wirtz both produced on-target efforts in the early stages of the first period. Undav then raced onto Jamal Musiala’s exquisite, disguised through ball, only to be denied by the onrushing Hradecky.
Unfortunately for the Finnish shot-stopper, his resistance was ended when Undav finally broke the deadlock in the 34th minute, creeping in at the back post to steer a composed header home from Joshua Kimmich’s inch-perfect delivery following a short corner.
Despite missing out on World Cup qualification, Finland managed to keep the deficit down to one before the break, but they gifted Germany a second within three minutes of the restart. Adam Markhiev’s careless pass in his own box opened the door for Undav to slide the ball across for Wirtz for a simple finish.
Matters got worse for the visitors when Undav grabbed his second goal of the game just before the hour mark, sliding a left-foot shot beyond Hradecky to round off an incisive counter-attack and register a second brace at international level.
With confidence oozing through the team, the four-time world champions put together a slick, incisive move that created the opening for Jamal Musiala to lash home a fierce shot in his first international appearance since March 2025.
While some last-ditch defending denied them a fifth goal, Germany would have been delighted with a fifth clean sheet in seven games as they head to Chicago for their final warm-up game against tournament co-hosts USA, before they begin their quest for a fifth star against Curacao on 14th June.
For the Eagle Owls, they head to Budapest for a meeting with Hungary on 5th June, their final match before a return to competitive action in the UEFA Nations League in September.
