In Wednesday's second-round fixtures of the Dutch KNVB Beker, Ajax easily made their way into the third round, as struggling Feyenoord couldn't prevent an early exit at home against Heerenveen.

Excelsior Maassluis - Ajax: 2-7

Ajax proved too tough to handle for third-tier amateurs Excelsior Maassluis, who lost 7-2 to the record winners.

Full-backs Owen Wijndal and Anton Gaaei got Ajax off to a hot start with goals in the opening twenty minutes, after which young striker Don-Angelo Konadu and Jorthy Mokio made it 4-0. Rayane Bounida was the star of the first half, however, after assisting Ajax's last three goals of the half.

The Moroccan-Belgian talent added a fourth assist to his tally when Mokio completed his brace three minutes after the break. Excelsior Maassluis refused to go home empty-handed and made the home crowd - the game played in Sparta Rotterdam's stadium as the cup game was deemed a high-risk game by local authorities - and got on the scoreboard via Devin Plank.

Bounida added a goal to his evening, after which Jannick Verbont scored Excelsior Maassluis' second from an offside position, which went unseen by the officials. Spaniard Raul Moro scored Ajax's seventh and last goal in the 65th minute, slotting it into the far corner instead of passing it to 16-year-old debutant Abdellah Ouazane.

Fortuna Sittard - Almere City: 2-3

Second-division side Almere City eliminated Eredivisie outfit Fortuna Sittard from the KNVB Beker with a 3-2 win in Sittard.

Justin Lonwijk got Fortuna up one in the 11th minute after Almere City played a poor opening phase. Centre-half Emmanuel van de Blaak erased that poor opening from Almere with the 24th-minute equaliser.

Fortuna Sittard were reduced to ten men when Edouard Michut committed to a disastrous tackle on Emanuel Poku, but the team rebounded by taking the lead six minutes later. The visitors staged a brilliant comeback from there on via Ajax loanee Julian Rijkhoff and Olivier de Nijs, who scored a dramatic winner in the 87th minute.

Roda JC - Go Ahead Eagles: 1-1 (1-3 after penalties)

Holders Go Ahead Eagles survived a tricky evening in Kerkrade, where Roda JC forced a penalty shootout after 120 minutes and lost 3-1 on penalties.

A quick second-half opener, courtesy of Kenzo Goudmijn, followed an uninspiring first half as Go Ahead Eagles tried to control the match from there on out. Twenty minutes after Goudmijn's goal, Roda JC equalised via Jay Kruiver, who recorded his side's only shot on goal in the second half.

Go Ahead Eagles controlled extra time, but couldn't prevent a penalty shootout in the Parkstad Limburg Stadion. Jari De Busser, the Eagles' cup-final hero, dominated the shootout with two saves, earning his team a third-round ticket.

TOP Oss - FC Utrecht: 0-2

Europa League outfit FC Utrecht had a worry-free evening in Oss, beating second-tier TOP Oss 2-0 to confirm their spot in the round of 16.

Emirhan Demircan got Utrecht in the lead 31 minutes into a half dominated by the visitors. With the score still at 0-1 for the longest time, TOP Oss remained unable to create any chances against Utrecht. Danish midfielder Victor Jensen doubled Utrecht's lead after all in the 84th minute.

Feyenoord - sc Heerenveen: 2-3

14-time winners Feyenoord were shockingly knocked out in the second round of the KNVB Beker by Heerenveen, who toppled Robin van Persie's Rotterdam giants with a 3-2 away win.

Feyenoord, who'd lost 7 of their previous 10 games and came off the back of a 2-0 derby defeat to Ajax, controlled the first half with early chances for Ayase Ueda, Hwang-In Beom and Luciano Valente, but headed into the break with a one-goal deficit after former Feyenoord striker Dylan Vente calmly earned Heerenveen the lead.

It took Feyenoord twenty minutes in the second half to get back alongside Heerenveen when Luciano Valente scored the equaliser from close range. Heerenveen bounced back, however, with Maxence Rivera's near-post finish.

Robin van Persie's men mustered another comeback via Jaden Slory, whose cross ricocheted into the Frisian goal via Heerenveen defender Maas Willemsen. Another defensive meltdown cost Feyenoord extremely dearly with the finish line in sight - Danish star Jacob Trenskow punished Feyenoord from a counter and scored the winner for Heerenveen in the 90th minute.

Feyenoord lost their eighth game in eleven attempts and failed to reach the round of 16 for the second time in the last ten years, adding pressure onto an already struggling Robin van Persie.
